Mission and Vision

Mission: The mission of Friends of Residents in Long Term Care is to advance quality of life in residential long term care in North Carolina.

Vision: Friends of Residents in Long Term Care envisions higher standards than currently exist, and we are a model for other states.

We seek to achieve our mission by:

(1) Influencing public policy on behalf of residents and personal care aides.  Our Public Policy Committee proposes legislation that will improve direct care staffing, ensure adequate training and increase facility accountability.  We monitor bills affecting long term care and participate in the rule-making process.  We work to insure that advocates and family members are represented on boards and commissions that make decisions affecting long term care.

(2) Serving as an independent resource for families looking for long term care for a loved one or seeking help with an unresolved issue.  We assist family councils, direct care workers and sponsor a variety of events to help consumers make informed decisions about long term care and advocate for their loved ones.

We represent thousands of concerned families, individuals,  and organizations across the state that want to support the 80,000 people who, because they can no longer live independently, reside in long term care facilities in the state of North Carolina. These residents need our voice, our commitment, and our strength in numbers to continue advocating for a better quality of life for this vulnerable population.

Our work covers many aspects of long term care in various settings: nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult care homes, family care homes, multi-unit housing with services, continuing care retirement communities and home and community services.
