2011 Legislative Summary
The 2011 NC General Assembly convened in January 2011 and adjourned on June 18, 2011. A highlight of this session was the enactment of House Bill 474 Protect Adult Care Home Residents. This bill strengthens the training requirements of personal care staff in adult care homes, particularly related to infection control requirements and related annual inspections. Bills strongly opposed by Friends of Residents in Long Term Care which were enacted included Senate Bill 33 Medical Liability Reforms (vetoed by the Governor and the General Assembly overrode the veto) and House Bill 677 Discharge of Adult Care Home Residents.
Many programs throughout state government suffered deep budget cuts or elimination. For a detailed summary of legislation and budget provisions go to the General Assembly’s website.
