Public Policy Priorities for the 2008 Short Session of the General Assembly

 TOP PRIORITIES

1.     Support legislation to address problem of mixed populations in adult care homes

2.     Support enhancement and provision of dental services in long term care facilities

3.     Monitor implementation of the star rating system for adult care homes and support expansion funds for technical assistance and regulation to improve quality and transparency

ADDITIONAL PRIORITIES

4.     Increase funding for Home and Community Care Block Grant by $7 million

5.     Increase Medicaid personal needs allowance to nursing home residents from $30/month to $50/month

6.     Study requiring air conditioning in adult care homes

7.     Support labor enhancements for direct care workers in long term care facilities

8.     Strengthen elder abuse and guardianship laws

9.     Improve disaster preparedness of long term care facilities and local planning efforts
