What Do We Do?

Friends of Residents in Long-Term Care (FORLTC) is an independent, nonprofit organization (501c3), committed to advancing the quality of life for the 100,000 individuals who receive long-term care in North Carolina. We focus on the entire continuum of long-term care including nursing homes, adult care homes (assisted living), continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), and home health care.

Mission - Why Do We Exist?

Our mission is to advance quality of life for individuals receiving long term care services in North Carolina.

Vision What is the impact of our work?

We represent the voice of resents and families in the public policy discourse. Our vision is to empower residents and families and to improve the quality of long-term care in North Carolina by providing a statewide network of education, advocacy, and support.

Values – What do we believe in?

We believe in strengthening partnerships throughout the aging services community by working collaboratively with residents, families, providers, and advocates to achieve our vision.  We believe that by building a sustainable, statewide network of engaged advocates and consumers we will be able to improve the quality of life and quality of care in long-term care in North Carolina. Our motto is "Quality Care, No Matter Where!"

We Accomplish Our Mission by...

  • Providing consumer-focused information about your long-term care options and rights
  • Helping you navigate the complicated system of long-term care services and supports
  • Offering seminars and training to consumers, providers, and advocates
  • Building public awareness about long-term care issues
  • Answering questions on our Consumer Warm Line at 919-782-1530

We Need Your Support...

Why Support Friends of Residents in Long-Term Care?

We represent over 100,000 people in North Carolina who, because they can no longer live independently, receive long-term care services. These residents and their family members need our voice, our commitment, and our strength to continue advocating for a better quality of life.

Your tax-deductible contribution to FORLTC allows us to advocate for and support the vulnerable elders and people with disabilities who receive long-term care in our state. Your support enables us to develop new trainings, provide enhanced outreach programs, have a stronger voice in the legislature, mentor students interested in the field of long-term care, and promote positive change for residents in nursing homes, adult care homes, independent living centers, and continuing care retirement communities.
