What We Do

Friends of Residents in Long Term Care is an independent, nonprofit organization (501c3), committed to advancing the quality of life for the 100,000 individuals who receive long-term care in North Carolina.

We focus on the entire continuum of long-term care including nursing homes, adult care homes (assisted living), continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs), and home health care.

We represent the voice of residents and families in the public policy discourse. Our vision is to empower residents and families and to improve the quality of long-term care in North Carolina by providing a statewide network of education, advocacy, and support.

We believe in strengthening partnerships throughout the aging services community by working collaboratively with residents, families, providers, and advocates to achieve our vision. 

We believe that by building a sustainable, statewide network of engaged advocates and consumers we will be able to improve the quality of life and quality of care in long-term care in North Carolina. Our motto is "Quality Care, No Matter Where!"

  • Serve as an independent resource for North Carolina’s citizens as they make choices and decisions about long-term care for themselves and their loved ones.

  • Provide consumer-focused information about long-term care options and rights as a citizen of North Carolina.

  • Answer questions about long-term care on our long-term care consumer hotline at 919-782-1530.

  • Help families navigate the complicated system of long-term care services.

  • Offer educational seminars to individuals, families, care providers, advocates.

  • Build public awareness of important issues in long-term care.

  • Ensure that the voices of long-term care recipients are represented to North Carolina’s policy makers and leaders.
